Open LMS Announces Proctoring Partnership with Smowltech

By: Phill Miller

I have four children, so the last few weeks have truly been a rollercoaster ride as we try to figure out what “Back to School” will look like for our children. At various points during the last few weeks, school has been delayed, canceled, made virtual, and offered as a hybrid option, and there would be free Chromebooks or BYOD. As it stands now, their schooling is virtual—but even that’s up in the air. I don’t say that to complain. We are at the beginning of the craziest school year that has ever occurred, and the dedicated teachers, administrators, and parents are doing everything that they can to make it work.

That’s why I feel very lucky to work at Open LMS, where we have the opportunity to support schools and universities as they navigate this complicated time. And I’m especially excited today to announce a strategic partnership that we’ve signed with our friends at Smowltech, to allow our clients a free, completely integrated academic integrity and proctoring tool for the rest of this year.

Our clients are juggling a million tasks right now, as many prepare for their first full semester of pure online or hybrid courses. They are training faculty that haven’t taught online before, creating courses, integrating content, and trying to make sure that all students actually have access. We also know that means exams are soon to follow, and our clients will be asked about the security of online exams. We want to make this easy for them.

This next academic term is going to be one of massive experimentation. Many of our clients want to experiment with secure online exams, but they don’t have the time, money, or expertise to do that. So let us help! (That’s why we’re here.)

With our friends at SMOWL, we are offering a free solution until the end of 2020. And, when I say “free,” I don’t mean that you get to play with it, and then get prompted to enter your payment details. Our friends at SMOWL are giving up to 5,000 proctored exam sessions to our clients, which means that most clients might be able to do all of their proctored exams without paying anything. It’s one of the reasons we chose to partner with SMOWL. They care as deeply about education as we do, and they want to invest in helping educators as they navigate the new normal.

So, let’s get this semester started. It will be messy, crazy, and a global experiment in online learning. I’m delighted to be a part of it!
